After Florence, we spent five days in Norcia, where we had a silent retreat, and spent some time with the Benedictine monks. Norcia is the birth place of St. Benedict and St. Scholastica (twins). This is the main plaza of the village. One of the side altars of the crypt of this church is the exact spot where Benedict and Scholastica were born! Norcia is a quiet, hilly town and the streets are narrow. A picturesque classical romantic ideal of what Italian towns should look like.
