Cascia and St. Rita’s tomb

On our way to Rome we stopped at Cascia. This is St. Rita of Cascia’s tomb, located in the basilica. I was immersed in prayer here very unexpectedly. I felt a connection with St. Rita and I meditated here on her perseverance in loving her enemies and praying for those who persecuted her. She was a wife and a mother whose husband and children were all victims of Italian family feuds. She became an Augustinian after her two sons died, and she received the stigmata of one thorn from the crown of Christ on her forehead. I am glad that she has been praying for me. I have adopted her as a personal patron for this Rome Experience.
