A big suitcase and a big smile as Bryan Medlin prepares for the Rome Experience 2010

I have just completed my first year in theology at the Pontifical College of the Josephinum.   After taking time for reflection and prayer, I still cannot believe that I am really going to Rome.  If anyone told me seven years ago that I would be doing this, I would have written him off.  Now, I am beyond humbled to even be part of the experience.  Me — a former Lutheran seminarian — now heading to Rome as a Catholic seminarian, visiting the place that allowed me to proceed with seminary formation.  During the past two weeks, I have been preparing myself through prayer and spiritual reading.  Some of the books I have read include Thomas Merton’s The Ascent to Truth, as well as Henri Nouwen’s books The Wounded Healer and  Life of the Beloved.  I pray to our Lord and ask for the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin, that I may be ready to fully receive the fruits and benefits of the Rome Experience in mind, body, and soul.  I am deeply looking forward to the Rome Experience and cannot possibly imagine what I will experience.
