The Rome Experience is a six-week summer program for diocesan seminarians who desire to experience anew his original call from Christ to the priesthood; to see himself as a beloved son of the Church; and to obtain an increasing level of confidence in his growing spiritual and intellectual ability to carry out his mission as a priest.
“The centrality of Christ leads to a correct valuation of priestly ministry.” The happiness and success of a priest is predicated in large part on his ability to have a meaningful life of prayer, while maintaining a confident and intellectual engagement with the secular world. Without these two abilities the priest will soon find himself overwhelmed by the demands of his priestly ministry, or, even worse, withdrawing from the evangelical mission that has been entrusted to him by his ordination.
The Rome Experience augments seminary training by focusing intellectual development on the most recent and pertinent teachings of the Magisterium and introducing him to a life of practical spirituality.
At every Mass, a priest prays for the needs of the universal Church and for the Holy Father. While the importance of the Pope as the center of Catholic unity can be studied in the classroom, THE ROME EXPERIENCE allows seminarians to pray and study next to the chair of Peter, thus experiencing first-hand the universality of the Catholic Church.
Key Points of The Rome Experience: Seminarians will participate in courses for spiritual, intellectual, and cultural formation. This will include a five-day directed, quiet retreat in the Monastero di Sant’ Antonion in Norcia, Umbria and participation in papal audiences. There will also be an opportunity to visit some of the congregations and pontifical commissions of the Roman Curia.
